Beautiful Beginnings
Natural State Midwife Services is the practice of Arkansas midwife Shea Childs. Shea's birth philosophy is rooted in trust in the physiological process of birth and the capability of the body, respect for the wishes of the laboring mother or birthing person, reverence for the emotional and spiritual components inherent in each birth, and an appreciation for the gift of each newborn.

Shea was introduced to home birth by her colleagues at the Chicago Waldorf School in 1999, when she was pregnant with her oldest daughter. She returned to her home state of Arkansas in 2003. Both of her daughters were born into the comforts of home, attended by the loving, capable hands of skilled professional midwives.

Shea began serving women and their families in 2007. She was licensed by the State of Arkansas in 2011 as an LLM and received her credential as a Certified Professional Midwife from NARM that same year.  She carries the Midwifery Bridge Certificate issued by NARM as well. She has a BA in Psychology from the University of Arkansas, is a Certified Waldorf Teacher and is an active member of the Midwife Advisory Board for the state of Arkansas, serving as secretary from 2013-2022.

Shea is honored to carry on the age-old tradition of midwife-attended, normal birth for families, for babies and for the betterment of the planet.  She has attended over 400 births and looks forward to a lifetime of learning from each pregnant person and their families that she serves.

Every birth is unique, every baby a gift.
